Activity 3: Analysis of Letter by Shawn Tan Wen Bin (18)

The writer is knowledgeable about the topic he was presenting on. He presented a lot of facts and research (mainly made up of statistic data) to back up his claim which made him seems professional. He credited his source to make the letter and persuasion more accurate.The writer is thoughtful, fair and respectful of alternative points of view as he covered both views of pros and cons of gun ownership.


The writer appealed to the emotions, values and beliefs of an audience; he said "I have been so impressed with your past voting record, and I am hoping that you will continue to make excellent decisions on behalf of your state". The writer also have excellent word choice including vivid examples and details which affects the emotional responses of the audience; "As a concerned parent who lost a child to a gun accident, I am writing to urge you to support the gun control legislation that will be on the November ballot." His letter is persuasive because it's crafted so fittingly with his own words and his research and is interesting to the audience.


The most persuasive part of the letter is the Involvement of strong information & flow of logic. The speech is consistent and clear. The writer made a claim & backed it up with quality reason and evidence.
