The writer has used all the elements of rhetorics - pathos, ethos and logos. While he mentioned why he is writing and what his subject is - gun control, then you realize that this is a ethical writing as gun control is in fact a danger to lives. This is also an emotional essay as every time to emphasize the point of gun control he says that his son had died because of a gun accident, making us pity him and there fore feel that his point is good and can be followed. Also the emotional part put us in his shoes and makes us feel that we need to prevent this to save innocent lives. He also has a lot of logical proof as he has provided chunks of information, statistics and facts that show that having a personal gun only increases risk to the family and less to the robber or thief.
