Activity 3: Analysis of Letter by Cheng Zhi Chao (10)

The author used Ethos to present his views by claiming repeatedly that guns cause injuries and death. In one of his first statements, he said that, "The problem with guns is fairly straightforward: they make it easy to kill or injure a person." He wanted to show that what he was doing was morally right, by emphasizing that killing or injuring others is wrong.

The author used Pathos to present his views by emphasizing the point that many innocent people are killed by guns. This was to initiate some emotions in the reader. He also wrote about how his child died as a result of an accidental gunshot, even though no one had meant for it to happen. The fact that an innocent child could die because of a gunshot would cause readers to symphatise for the person.

The author used Logos to present his views by using statistics to show information relating to deaths or injuries by gunshots. He wrote about how many people was estimated to have died or got injured by gunshots, where they most commonly happened, how much of it was an accident that could have been prevented if guns were not in possession.
