Reflection@Online News Articles-Lai Ziying

1. Based on your understanding of facts and opinions, why do you think this is important for a journalist/ reporter in the world of online news reporting?
It is important for a journalist in the world of online news reporting because due to the technology advancement, the mistakes in his articles will be widespread within a short period of time. Therefore, the journalist has to be more responsible for his readers and the topic which he writes about. By differentiating facts and opinions, a journalist will be able to  write his articles and delivering his messages through the article while maintaining honesty and respect for others’ rights. This helps him to stay out of trouble and keep his job. By providing his readers pure-fact articles also makes his articles the reliable sources of information which may be referred to by people for future-uses.
2. How can some of the problems raised in the articles be controlled?

Some of the problems raised in the articles are confusions and misconceptions caused by the online news articles. These problems can be controlled by the management level of the news organisation and the law and order. For instance, by using a set of law to forbid the misconceptions and confusions that online articles lead the readers to. Also, the readers play a big role in this virtual world of reading online articles.
3. What are some responsibilities of discerning readers?

For readers who are discerning about the articles, they should report any non-official web pages which report articles that abuse others’ rights and contain misleading information. Other than reporting to the respective organisations, the discerning readers should also leave a comment in the discussion forum to alert other readers and it will be better if the discerning readers can paste the URLs of trust-worthy websites that contain reports regarding the same matter.
